This past week, I worked on touching up my third project and came close to having it completely done. I fixed it up a lot and like the way it turned out. I also worked on sketching my fourth project and now have that done too. I was planning on having a mix of colors for the surprised emotion for this piece, but that would have messed with the whole display if the rest are monochromatic. I did some research on the psychology of colors and decided orange would be best for this piece. Now this week I will most likely have this project completed and start two more next week.
This is my blog entry from two weeks ago, since I accidental forgot about it. Anyway, I came close to finishing a third piece and have come up with a plan for the rest of the course. The third piece I finished is my little brother with a sad face painted in monochromatic blue to represent his emotion. There was some mess ups in the piece so I had to go back and fix some things eventually. The plan I want to follow is finish my fourth project next week and then start two of them over thanksgiving break. With the time I have at home over the cource of that break, I feel that I can focus in for longer periods of time and work.
Last week I completely finished two projects and I am happy with the way they turned out. Finishing these two projects allowed me to better understand the process and figure out problems along the way, so I can avoid them for the rest of my projects. This week I am planning to start two projects and have one at home and one in school, so I can work on both of them at the same time. To stay on track, both of these new pieces should be completed by Sunday, November 10th, which is feasible if I use my time wisely.
This past week I came close to finishing my first project and I also came close to finishing my second project, which is a skull in gray scale that is supposed to represent death. I have to touch up some parts and finish the background and I will be done. I am going to start my third project either tonight or tomorrow.
This past week I got a solid chunk of my first project done, which is an 11 x 14 painting of myself making a disgusted face. The painting in a monochromatic green/yellow color since those colors are associated with disgust.
This past week I finalized my idea for my series. I was thinking about how the series could be boring if it's just black and white with straight faces, so I decided to have each person do a different facial expression and the pieces will be monochromatic based on the color of that emotion/expression. I also decided that my series will start out small and gradually increase sizes until they get smaller again. I think this will give my series variety and will make it more visually appealing and fun to create.
Last week I felt like I was stuck in my series with no ideas and I started to waste a lot of time trying to brainstorm. I thought to myself that if I wasn't coming up with any ideas for the second piece, then I should probably find a new direction. So last week I decided to change my idea. My new series is going to be portraits that include someone from different stages of life that personally connect to me. I am going to use people in my family or close relatives. The stages I will focus on are infancy, childhood, adolescence, early adulthood, midlife, mature adulthood, late adulthood, and death. These acrylic paintings are going to be a posterized style in gray scale. I am choosing gray scale because grey is a neutral and balanced color, which I feel can also be powerful. The pieces will have colors that come close to black and white, which also provide purity and power.
This past week I came close to finishing my first piece, but still have some things to work out. I was satisfied with how my time was planned out last week. I had a goal of what I wanted to finish each day and I met that goal by the end of each class. I think the hardest part of these projects is planning everything out and knowing everything to do before I start my piece. There is so much planning involved with so many little details that its hard to think of everything before I started. I am not finished with my first piece, but I'm setting it aside because I'm not happy with it. This week I plan to come up with an idea for my second piece and have the plan down to the smallest details laid out. This will help me cut down on the working time by not having as many problems during the final work.
